Last Friday Jillian's 1st grade class put on a play at school with 2 other 1st grade classes. It was Jack & the Beanstalk. It is a really big deal at the school. They perform at a morning & afternoon assembly. About a month before the play they each got a cd of the songs they were going to sing in the play. Boy did we hear that cd a lot. We all went around singing "This is the story of a boy named Jack, it also has a giant & a goose." Carter knew all the songs from listening to them with Jill in her room & he sang along with the kids at the rehearsals. The classes rehearsed twice a day for 2 weeks prior & they didn't have any homework so they could practice their lines & songs at home. Each child had 1 or 2 lines so the parts were split among numerous children. There were 7 giants, 12 mothers, 4 farmers etc... Jillian was a story teller. Her line was, "As Jack walks down the road, leading his cow, he meets some farmers." She also helped make the human bean stalk that Jack climbed up in the play. The week before the play I spent most of my days at the school helping with the scenery & costumes. We twisted a million vines, taped on tons of leaves & one of the Mom's even made a beanstalk that she rigged to the ceiling so it could grow when it was time in the story. It was pretty awesome. The song about the giant says "He's got one eye one tooth big ears & that's the truth, he's got one tooth one eye big feet & that's no lie." I was put in charge of making the big ears for the Giant's. Carter is modeling the giant's ears I made. See them on the Giant's in the upper left picture! They turned out pretty cute. After the morning play the kids had a cast party (pizza for lunch) that I stayed to help with. It was a long day but Jillian did a great job & had a lot of fun.
